Poor Credit Loans, Grab One If You Can By Peter Kirkham

Your credit score rules everything from your ability to take out a mortgage loan to the interest rates that you pay for your credit cards, auto loans, home loans, and more. The problem, though, is that once you have poor credit, it can be really difficult to dig yourself out of your credit slump.

While taking out another loan may seem like the opposite of a good idea when it comes to your financial situation, a poor credit loan may actually be just what you need to start getting yourself out of your financial mess.

Not all banks will write loans for people with poor credit.

Basically, your credit score reflects how risky you are as a loan, and the banks pretty much just see the numbers. The lower your credit score is, the more likely you are to miss payments, make payments late, or default on your loan altogether, leaving the bank in a bad financial situation.

There are, though, banks and loan companies that will take on people with poor credit, and you can use these companies as a tool to get out of debt. Getting a poor credit loan is all about finding the company who will give you the right loan.

The problem with many of these loans, though, is that their interest rates are incredibly high.

Since you have poor credit anyway, chances are likely that you’ll want to use this loan to pay off higher interest debt so that you can afford your monthly payments. If your plan is to use the loan for new jeans and groceries, you seriously need to rethink your strategy, anyway. At any rate, if the interest rate on your new loan is too high, it’s not going to do you much good in paying off your other debt.

One way to see what the rates will be like is to check out your own credit score; looking at your own score doesn’t hurt your credit at all, which is great.

Once you know your score, call around to a few banks and loaning institutions to see what the odds of you getting a loan are. Until you fill out a full application, the company will be unable to tell you exactly what interest rate you’d get, but you may be able to get a fair idea of which banks are more willing to take risks on those with poor credit.

After this, you should apply to the three or four banks with the best view of poor credit loan customers.

Applying to several places at the same time will help you compare different offers so that you get the best possible loan. Any time you take out a loan, it’s crucial that you understand all the information before signing on the dotted line.

If you have questions about your interest rate, monthly payments, or other terms, contact the lending institution so that you know exactly what all the fine print means.
